There are five main ski areas accessible from Chalet Telemark with plenty to offer skiers and boarders of all abilities.

The map opposite shows the main ski areas along the Chamonix valley. Click on the piste area to see details, access routes and larger maps showing runs.

In addition to these piste areas there are four areas suitable for beginners and children situated close to the centres of Chamonix, Argentière and Le Tour.

The Grands Montets (1235 - 3300m) – recommended for experienced & intermediate skiers/boarders

  • world famous for outstanding vertical drops and off pistes
  • 2900m technical red slope
  • 3200m tricky black slope, very physical & challenging run
  • glacier ski/boarding (with guide)
  • magnificent views from high mountain routes
  • exceptional quality of snow until May!
  • Snowpark (half pipe)
  • The ultimate playground for all winter sports

Aiguille du Midi (1035 – 3842m) – recommended for advanced abilities with guide only

  • highest cable car in Europe
  • access to the famous Vallee Blanche (December – May)
  • 20k over the Geant glacier and the Mer de Glace – unmarked and unpatrolled area
  • recommend taking a guide and using appropriate mountain equipment : ARVA, spade, probe, harness, crampons, rope etc
  • 360° panorama over the mountain tops of the Mont Blanc massif (4807m)

Brévent-Flégère (1030 - 2525m) – recommended for all levels of expertise

  • largest area in the Chamonix valley
  • fantastic panoramic views of Mont Blanc and Mer de Glace glacier
  • large variety of routes – blue/red/off piste
  • south facing - catches plenty of winter sun
  • beautiful wooded ski trails – perfect for power days

Les Houches (1008 - 1860m) - recommended for beginners, intermediates & downhill enthusiasts

  • high nursery slopes
  • pretty, wooded blue and red runs
  • nighttime skiing every Thursday
  • 3 Black, 11 Red, 6 Blue, 2 Green runs
  • 86 Snow Cannons
  • access to La Verte – the challenging World Cup downhill course

La Tour/Vallorcine (1453-2270m) – recommended for beginners/intermediates

  • long gentle blue and green runs
  • hidden powder fields – a favourite with snowboards
  • long runs through pine forests



Ideal areas for Beginners & Children

La Vormaine (1480m) - Le Tour

  • very sunny ski area with plenty of snow
  • ideal for learning
  • excellent piste for snowboard beginners
  • perfect for children

Les Chosalets (1230m) - Argentière

  • vast open slope for beginners
  • ideal for children

Les Planards (1062-1242m) - Chamonix

  • snow cover guaranteed with 41 snow cannons
  • 4 pistes – red, blue and two greens
  • 2 minutes from the centre of town

Le Savoy (1949 – 1125m) - Chamonix

  • right in the centre of Chamonix
  • 2 drag lifts and a conveyor belt lift
  • artificial snow

Non-Skiers

  • Take the Montenvers railway to visit – Mer de Glace (sea of ice) Glacier

  • Ride Europes highest cablecar – to the top of the Aiguille du Midi
