Events in the Portes du Soleil
Every summer we have seen some huge events taking place over the years. Some events are a one off affair, whilst others continue year after year. Summer 2017 is set to be huge with the Crankworx World Tour visiting Les Gets for the 2nd year running, the Passportes du Soleil which will now be in its 14th year, the Reebok Spartan Race in Morzine for the 2nd year running, Harley Davidson biannual festival and the Chatel Bike Show… just to mention a few! As well as these big events you’ll find a weekly activity programme in each resort offering a huge selection of different events for all the family.
Crankworx World Tour – Mountain Bike Event

Passportes du Soleil 2018 – Mountain Bike Event
The big event every summer in the Portes du Soleil is the PassPortes du Soleil. An annual event that showcases the fantastic mountain biking on offer in the area as all the resorts (Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz, Chatel, Morgins, Le Crosets, Champery and Torgon) open their lifts and the whole area becomes accessible from the end of June to the middle of September. The Passportes route uses 15 of the 24 available lifts and covers 80km through France and Switzerland. The route takes you down 6000m of decent with just 1000m of climbing. Using the chair lifts to take out a lot of the hard work and get you to the top in no time. The Passportes route is set up to showcase the best tracks and views the area has to offer and it is a truly stunning ride. There are eight refreshment stops along the way with drinks (even beer), snacks, meals and entertainment making the whole day not just a great mountain bike ride but a fantastic experience with a great atmosphere. Spartan Race sponsored by Reebok – Assault Course
Spartan Race and mountainous terrain go hand-in-hand. Discover what it means to be a Spartan and meet others as you battle toward one common goal: the finish line. A Spartan race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. The series include the Spartan Sprint, the Super Spartan, the Spartan Beast, and the Ultra Beast. As is the case for mountain courses, you’ll be sent up and down a lot. Thankfully there’s the reward of a view from the outstanding heights. Come prepared for the unexpected in the weather department as mountain weather is notoriously unpredictable. Spartans always come prepared but some things are certain: there will be rope climbs, there will be barbed wire, and there will be heavy carries. No one likes 30 burpees and that’s why it’s wise to train hard, train well and be prepared to conquer each and every obstacle.
Harley Davidson Bike Festival
The Morzine Harley Days event takes place in the centre of Morzine with lots of different activity areas including a Custom Bike Show, rides and concerts in the evening. Now a regular biannual event for riders from all over Europe and those who love rock music. Morzine Harley Days will host a fantastic rock concert on the Friday and Saturday nights. This year’s event will be a huge celebration of music, freedom and all things chrome in the perfect setting of Morzine. Four full days dedicated to the Harley-Davidson spirit and legend.
Mont Blanc Rally
At the beginning of September the mountain roads are shut off and the quiet mountain roads are transformed into a rally track. Over 2 days the rally car drivers will cover over 200kms of roads around this area. Each stage has marked viewing and safe standing areas. It is recommended you arrive early and allow plenty of time to get into position before the stage begins. Once the action starts you are in for a real treat as the cars fly past often getting air.
Alpine Battle Les Gets
Teams are formed with two competitors each. Equipped with a route map, you must pass through as many designated checkpoints in the Les Gets area as possible. Using GPS trackers, the organisers can verify the position of each team in real time and see which checkpoints have been crossed. Ski lifts may also be used. Following a mass start each team must find and complete the routes in record time.
Chatel Mountain Bike Festival 2016
This replaced the Chatel Mountain Style competition which was a massive annual Freeride event featuring some of the best riders and sponsors in the world! The event was held on ‘The Face’ trail. This 300 metre decent is more an area to get down than a track. Riders pick their own line over rocks, roots, northshore and steep ground. Watching the competing guys fly down this track over the obstacles and throwing in a few tricks along the way is just amazing! It’s an easy ride over from our chalet to get to ‘The Face’ so if it’s just spectating you’re after it couldn’t be easier to get to. If you’re keen to take on ‘The Face’ we can definitely get you there and we are more than happy to take photos!
