We take a look at some of the things that will keep you busy – and more importantly the kids happy, in our round-up of family activities on offer in Les Gets during the summer months.
If you’re used to visiting the Alps during the winter but have never considered going back when the snow has gone, then perhaps the time is now. Or maybe skiing isn’t your thing but you like the thought of being in nature, or perhaps the thought of never getting bored with the huge amount of activities on offer for both kids and adults. Either way, the summer season offers lots of opportunity for a fantastic family holiday.
Multi Pass in the summer gives you access to the PDS lift network for walkers, plus over 70 activities. The pass costs just €4 euros per day and offers fantastic value for money.
Let’s take a look at some of the things you can get up to:
Wibit Water Park
Located at the Lac des Ecoles just above Les Gets, the Wibit Park is an inflatable obstacle course with waterslides, climbing walls, a Blob (catapult!) and many other ‘challenges’, all sitting on the lake itself. Kids really enjoy it, but there’s no reason for parents to sit back and watch, but just a warning, you will get wet! Younger kids between 4 and 8 years old can use the smaller park, but all areas are patrolled and sessions are run separately for 45 minutes each. Mountain Biking
Les Gets is one of the world’s top mountain bike destinations, but despite attracting the very top riders from around the globe, it’s also an excellent place to start off. Families can enjoy the more gentle trails designed for beginners, but the kids can soon progress onto the lift accessed terrain surrounding the town. A number of bike schools, including the Les Gets Bike School (MCF) take all levels of riders and employ English speaking instructors. It’s difficult to come to Les Gets without getting on a bike, so dive in and enjoy it, whatever level you are.
Cani-Rando (Dog Hiking)
If you’ve got children over the age of 10 years old that are fairly strong walkers then this activity can be a lot of fun. Harnessed to a dog, you walk in the mountains in a similar way to being towed on a sledge in winter. Reservations are advised and the cost is 20 € per person for a 1.5 hour activity.
E-Dirt Biking
Kids will love this activity – these 100% electric, zero emissions machines are great for introducing children to all-terrain dirt biking. Children from 6 years of age and above are taught the necessary skills to drive the vehicles in a controlled environment. The course is broken down into several work sessions (discovery of the equipment and its use, management of balance, accelerator, braking, keeping balance, the different driving positions: climb, descent, turn, crossing). A beginners introductory session lasting 1.5 hours costs 55 €.
Alta Lumina
Incredible forest park that’s open only after dark where visitors follow a marked trail where a story unfolds itself, brought to life by an incredible light and sound show. Alta Lumina is particularly suitable for families, and children will especially enjoy the immersive experience that takes you into another world. Cost: Adult (16 and over): 19 €, children (5 to 15 years old): 10 €, young children (4 and under): free, family (2 adults + 2 children): 53 €.
Endless summer activities
