Winter 2022-2023

Les Gets winter 2022-23 – ‘Suddenly the sky turned white, the temperatures dropped and the ground was covered in snow’ –
And so begins the ski season…

Les Gets had a jam packed summer and some amazing events that once again put Les Gets, Morzine and the Portes du Soleil on the world map, the interseason and autumn flew by with winter now well underway.  We can’t wait to welcome all our guests through our Chalet doors again this winter.  As we and most of the businesses around us make the final preparations leading up to the opening of the ski lifts in Les Gets on 17th December, we hope you’ll find some of the following info helpful.  Please get in contact if you have any questions about our holidays or if you want to make an enquiry for this season or next season.  For everyone already booked with us this year, we can’t wait to see you.

Les Gets Off Piste:

There’s some amazing off piste skiing in Les Gets and around the Portes du Soleil.  Most of it is easy to find and access, some is more hidden away and requires good local knowledge to safely access it.  Mont Chery is great spot for holiday makers looking for easy access to off pistes skiing.  On the village facing side you have access to a nice open area departing from the top of the paragliding take off zone.  On the opposite side there’s some amazing treeline skiing and small drop offs.  You can also head across to the top of the Chamoisieres chairlift where you’ll find a free ride zone.  This is steeper, more technical and requires you to be suitably equipped.  If you’re on holiday our advice would be to hire a guide for the day who can take you to all the best spots around Les Gets and the Portes du Soleil.  They will know the current conditions and will be able to provide you with the right safety equipment, as well as hopefully being able to find you some untouched fresh powder runs.

FreeStyle/Parks:

Around the Portes du Soleil there are several snowparks and freeride zones.  There are smaller parks in Les Gets and Morzine that offer some ideal jumps, boxes and rails for you to build your confidence on.  These areas also tend to be quieter and ideal for spending the day practising.  Once you have the technique and ability to take on the bigger jumps we recommend heading over to the Avoriaz Snow park.

Beginners:

There’s a free magic carpet in Les Gets where you can practise in a safe area before progressing on to a chairlift.  We always recommend having lessons to learn the skills required to ski safely and confidently.  Your instructor can also help you progress quickly and help you discover the amazing ski area Les Gets and Morzine offer.  One of the great things about the Les Gets ski area is that it is very easy to go up the bubble lift with your family or friends and then all ski on terrain suitable for your level.  Then you can all meet up again at the top of the bubble for a drink or some lunch.

Family activities and events in Les Gets this winter

Why do we think Les Gets is the best family ski resort in the World?

Having had three kids ourselves who were all born here and grew up in Les Gets, we would say that we are a pretty good judge!  The resort offers some great skiing for kids, with wide open pistes and a huge selection of pistes for all levels.  With lots of cafes selling delicious hot chocolates it’s very easy to keep your kids warm and energised throughout the day.  Les Gets has lots of activities for kids on and off the pistes.  The Milka run offers some fun obstacles to ski through for younger kids, whilst the moguls and black runs near Nyon and Chamoisiere provide a fun but challenging area for older kids.  In the village you’ll find daily entertainment provided by the Les Gets tourist office, plus there’s a cinema, a bowling alley and an outdoor ice skating rink.

Electric Snowmobiles

Edwige and Jérémy welcome children to their e-park for an introduction to electric snowmobiling on a closed and secure circuit. It’s aimed at children from 5 to 17 years old, with the world’s first 100% electric snowmobile for teenagers. The Swiss company Quantya is the only firm manufacturing this type of electric snowmobile. Cost: 20 € for a 15-minute introduction / 60 € for a one-hour lesson.

Winter Sledging

There’s five controlled areas for tobogganing in Les Gets, away from the marked ski runs (helmets are strongly advised). The areas are, Vieux-Chêne: about 50m of slope / from 2 to 6 yrs, Chavannes: about 50m of slope / from 4 to 6 yrs, Perrières: 100 m of slope / children over 6 yrs, Lac des Ecoles: about 40m of slope / from 4 to 6 yrs, Boule de Gomme: about 25 m of slope / from 4 to 6 yrs.

Ice Skating

Right in the heart of Lets Gets, an outdoor natural ice rink takes centre stage and is a great place to take the kids if they need to expend more energy after a day on the slopes. It’s open every day and during the French school holidays hours are from 10 am to 12 noon and from 2 to 7 pm and from 8 to 10 pm. The rest of the season it’s open from 10 am to 12 noon and from 3 to 7 pm depending on the weather conditions.

You heard us right!  Call it Black Friday, BOGOF or just plain Christmas spirit, but we are offering you 1 free ski pass for every ski pass you purchase through us.  Our offer only applies to Les Gets/Morzine area passes, but you can pay the upgrade price difference for each pass.  It also only applies to bookings made for the week Sunday 8th to Sunday 15th January 2023 (7 nights half board in Chalet Aventure).  This offer expires on 15th December 2022.

Child Discounts:

Every winter we offer special discounted prices for children under 14 years old.  This doesn’t include peak weeks such as Christmas, New Year, February Half Term, Easter or other peak weeks.  Contact us now to find out what discount we can offer your family if you plan to visit outside of these peak periods.

Group Discounts:

A great way to save is to book as a group.  Chalet Aventure can accommodate up to 14 guests and by booking sole occupancy you will not pay the standard per person price.  Please see our prices page for the latest sole occupancy prices.

Short Breaks:

Short of time or just want to escape to the snow several times this winter?  We offer short breaks Sunday to Thursday (4 nights) or Thursday to Sunday (3 nights).  Dates currently available (as of today’s date 21/11/22):
January – 8th to 12th, or 12th to 15th – Prices from £65 per person per night (based on 5 people sharing a room)
February – 5th to 9th, or 9th to 12th – Prices from £95 per person per night (based on 3 people sharing a room)
March – 19th to 23rd, or 23rd to 26th – Prices from £80 per person per night (based on 3 people sharing a room)

The best Ski School?

There’s a great choice of experienced, qualified Ski instructors in Les Gets.  You have the choice of the traditional French ski schools, the British ski schools and the international ski schools.  There’s even ski schools with Dutch/Italian and German speaking instructors, plus the specialist ski instructors that cater for people with disabilities.  You also have Snowboard specialist schools and some independent instructors who cater more for experienced off piste skiers and ski touring.  The best ski school will always be a matter of personal choice and will largely depend on your experience level, your personal requirements (group or private lessons) and your budget, but we can make some recommendations based on the past experience and feedback from our guests.

Mountain Biking?

Host of the 2022 world downhill mountain bike championships, Les Gets is a Mountain Bikers paradise. There are trails to suit everyone, with a similar system to the winter ski pistes grading the runs from easy (green) to difficult (black).  The runs and the bike park have been designed and developed with the help and expertise of professional mountain bikers. From straightforward off road riding along forest fire tracks and wide grassy slopes to huge jumps, singletrack, world cup runs and jump parks.  The split second decision making and the challenges await you.

For the XC die-hards, the almost never-ending trails wind their way up and down the mountains, through the alpine forests, crossing rivers and through alpine pastures. Covering the border between France & Switzerland the trails are superb examples of mountain biking at its best.

Mountain Climbing?

Several areas near our Chalet are perfect for first time climbers to experience the breathtaking adventure that is Via Ferrata. Gentle climb up a mountain face using permanently fixed safety gear and make your way along the side of the rock. A harness and helmet are provided, but you need to take your camera just to capture the look on your friends faces as they climb along with you! Using a variety of natural ledges and man made steps & bridges – both beginner and experienced climbers can ascend to the spectacular views at the top.

Road Cycling?

Road cycling is one of the major French National Sports for a good reason. With the open space, the amazing scenery, the fantastic choice of mountain passes and the respect from car drivers, it makes cycling a real pleasure.

From our chalet you have a great choice of mountain pass routes varying in degree from a semi hard workout to something off the scale! We can help prepare routes and provide maps, as well as being available to join you on some rides. There is a great choice of routes to suit all levels from complete beginners to the very advanced.

For the hard core ‘Roadies’ linking several of the more famous climbs like the Joux Plane, Col Joue Vert, Ramaz, Col de Colombiere and the Col du Corbier can make for a very challenging but very rewarding days cycling.

Mountain Water Sports?

White water rafting is a great way to experience the power and flow of the river. Sitting in the raft with your guide, you will be taken down the river experiencing the rapids, eddies, swells, water falls and currents as you journey downstream. The rafting lasts between two to three hours and the rafting centre staff will brief you on safety and equipment before you go. You can join one big raft for eight to ten people or take a smaller two-man raft.

Canyoning is the ultimate adrenalin water sport, taking you down natural water slides into deep pools of water as you navigate the course of the river through gorges using any means possible – abseil, jump, slide, scramble or climb! The Canyons are naturally formed by the water cutting into the bedrock stone, forming narrow gorges with numerous drops, beautifully sculpted walls, and often spectacular waterfalls.

Hydrospeeding – your guide will kit you out in thick, reinforced wet suits, crash hats and flippers, then he will guide you down the river over and hopefully through the rapids to the calmer waters before jumping back in and heading towards the next rapid.

Trail Running?

With over 400 kms of signposted tracks we can safely say that there’s plenty to keep you engaged when you visit this area.  With 46 permanent trails and 24 mountain lifts its very easy to explore the whole area during your stay with us.  We are happy to join you on runs or put together day routes for you to explore.  You can even run from our Chalet in France all the way over to Switzerland for lunch before making your way home again.  If you like competitive running, every summer there are several events that take place offering a choice of routes, distances and ascents.  From our local Les Gets Trail (11/21/42 km) event to World famous events like the UTMB around Mont Blanc (170 km with 10,000 metres of climbing).  Contact Beth to discuss your requirements and start building your ultimate bespoke trail running holiday.
